BIATHLE & BIATHLON

Super Athletes

Our club has yielded more than just excellent swimmers but some super biathletes too. This past Saturday, five of our swimmers represented Border at the Biathlon Interprovincial Championships in Port Elizabeth. In spite of terrible weather, hard rain and freezing cold our brave athletes Kiara Herman, Rhys Poovan, Sanchia Poovan, Brooke Swanepoel and Deshaan Pillay performed superbly above all expectations and against all odds.

As many of you may know for some reason biathlon on the Border has been in a bit of a shambles but a brave soul named Michael Forbes took the reins, organized trials and our team though ill prepared, made quite an impression.

Kiara set the bar quite high winning the 800m run and the 50 m swim SO convincingly, leaving all the other athletes in her wake, winning the gold medal in her age group.  Deshaan finished fourth in his group even though he's out of age, he competed in the 17 and o category finishing 3 rd in his run and clocking the fastest time in the swim leg of the event, over all in a time of 59.82, a PB for him.  Sanchia finished her run in 3.33.58 and her swim in 37.12. A very good attempt from a very hard working girl!  Her brother Rhys finished fifth in his age group (also out of age) and Brooke like Deshaan, finished 4th in her age group.

Deshaan, Brooke and Rhys scored more than he required points of 2000 to be eligible for SA's to be held in Potchefstroom early next year. Well done all of you. You have done your coach and club Proud.

Go Tigers!!!!
