The inaugural Rhodes Mile High Swim is to be held over the first weekend of March. This unique experience will be held at extreme altitude – where the air is clean and oxygen thin. The scenery is rugged, with a beauty of its own. The dam is overlooked by Ben MacDhui, the highest point in the Eastern Cape (3000m).

The water is pristine, fresh/chilly (± 10-15° C), and the course follows roughly the shape of a butterfly’s wings, around 2 small islands. Marshals/rescue will be close at hand. Fun events such as a Dam Dash, Tube Race and a Round the Island Relay will be included, depending on response. Participation in all events is at own risk. Wetsuits may be worn.

Accommodation will be available in the historic village of Rhodes and surrounding area. See list below.

Access to Rhodes village is via Barkly East, along 60Km of gravel road, or via Naudesnek Highest road pass in SA, from Maclear (4x4 recommended – check condition in advance). There other notable passes in the area, including the one up through Carlislehoek leading to the dam. This is possible in a car with a good first gear and confident driver. Transport will be available from Den Hagen Farm, 7Km out of the village, please notify organizers in advance (i.e. with entry).

Entries are limited, please refer to entry form for categories.
